Our historic Dunkeld home

Our history

The home of the Dunkeld and District Historical Museum was originally a Presbyterian Church, although it was used for worship by all denominations in the early years. Built in 1865 through the combined effort of William Murdoch and the citizens of the town in the day, the Church has seen a number of uses and modifications over time. A front porch was added in 1927 with the vestry being used as a police station following the devastating bush fires of 1944.

Much of the character and charm of the building has been maintained over the years with modifications made sympathetically such as to preserve its valued history. It is meticulously maintained by a team of dedicated volunteers who generously donate their time and efforts to protect this valued property.
